 I’ve joined a Jewish organization at school, Hillel! They are very nice and welcoming! I honestly have never met a nicer group at school. So, I first registered for an event they were hosting, a talk by a Holocaust survivor. The story was very moving, I’ve never heard an account in person like that. When it ended, I approached someone—the same person who introduced the speaker and ended the event—and told them I was interested in joining Hillel. They asked me for my details and also asked me if I was Jewish. I said “not exactly,” I mean, I’m a Jew-to-be, so I told them that I am converting to Judaism. And later that evening I received an email confirming my membership! And, I just want to underscore that joining a club in person like that was a monumental step coming from me. Talking to someone new is something that I find very difficult, but this time I could actually do it! I really wanted to join, and I guess that helped me.
